TESDA-MisOr launches 2 agri training in Brgy. Mindulao


MAGSAYSAY, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–Twenty-five residents from Barangay Mindulao comprising of former Communist Terrorist Group-New People’s Army (CTG-NPA) members, CTG-NPA sympathizers, and Indigenous People (IPs) were the first batch of enrollees for the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA)-Misamis Oriental launching of Produce Organic Concoctions and Extracts in Magsaysay, September 5.

Under TESDA-Misamis Oriental’s Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) program, former rebels (FRs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) living in far-flung communities are identified by the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) and are capacitated in skills training towards better living.

With the majority of the batch being wives of farmers in Mindulao, the TESDA-10 found that the community possessed agricultural resources, which could be developed and utilized to produce organic concoctions and extracts.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Misamis Oriental representative Ronelyn Talibong expressed their agency’s commitment and support to the program and added that the DOLE-10 would aid the scholars in providing employment opportunities complementary to their new competencies.

Meanwhile, Mindulao Barangay Captain Camillo Ratilla, on behalf of his community shared that he is grateful for the skills training opportunity that would not only aid in their livelihoods but also protect their health.

“Ang ato taga gobyerno naabot kita na punto na tabangan ta nga mahaw-as sa kalisod, poverty reduction, pinaagi sa magtuon ug paghimo sa abono ug mga protektahan ta sa mga kemikal, masalamaton ta,” he said.

TESDA-10 gears up for national skills competition

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)—The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10 is preparing for the national skills competition after wrapping up a two-day regional skills contest, September 15-16 at the Cagayan de Oro (Bugo) School of Arts and Trades (COBSAT).

The competition focused on fifteen skill areas, including automobile technology, bakery, carpentry, cooking, electrical installation, graphics design technology, IT network system administration, mechatronics, patisserie and confectionary, restaurant services, wall and floor tiling, welding, agri-asexual plant propagation, agri-feeds formulation and mixing, and agri-knapsack sprayer calibration.

Misamis Oriental provincial office received the most gold medals, with ten; Lanao del Norte received three gold medals; and Bukidnon and Misamis Occidental tied for third place, with one gold medal each.

TESDA-10 Regional Director Ashary A. Banto said the competition is part of the agency’s annual skills Olympics, as mandated by RA 9776, which paves way for the TVET graduates and trainees to showcase not only their talents and competencies but also their values and work ethics.

“We really need to step up our preparations for the national competition because we know that our regional winners will still need to go through some types of training and intense preparations after this. They should be familiar with the skills competition requirements,” he said.

Banto hopes that now that the competition is over and the winners have been declared, the regional winners will triumph in the national competition and have the opportunity to represent not only the region but also the country in the international skills competition. (JAKA/PIA-10)

Gov’t brings services, programs closer to an MILF community

MUNAI, Lanao del Norte (PIA)–Various national government agencies of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict-10 (RTF-ELCAC) brought their services and programs closer to the 127th Base Command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front community in Bacayawan here on Sept. 13.

“Naa ta dinhi sa hugot nga commitment nga dad-on gyud sa kinalagyoan nga lugar ang atong kalambuan. This is our firm commitment to bring services close to the people,” said Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño, National Economic and Development Authority-10 regional director.

There were free circumcision, massage and haircut, medical check-ups, and vaccination against COVID-19. Residents also received grocery packs, vegetable seeds and seedlings, and school supplies, among others. Farm animals, equipment and tilapia fingerlings were also provided.

Profiling for training scholarships and registration for educational assistance and the Philippine Identification System were also conducted.

The provincial government of Lanao del Norte also provided various support through its Especial Mass-Based Program.

“They have been planning this, the DILG, mayor with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. With the support ng ilang ahensya na pumunta [of various agencies] from the national, I’m definitely sure na malaki ang pagbabago sa ating mga kapatid na [that there will be a big change for] MILF here in Bacayawan,” said Gov. Imelda “Angging” Dela Cruz Quibranza.

Moreover, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander BGen Rey Alemania encouraged the MILF Community to maintain their relationship with the local government units from barangay to municipal and provincial levels in implementing their plans for their community.

225 scholars, trainees complete tech-voc courses in Iligan

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–Two hundred twenty-five scholars and trainees here graduated from different technical-vocational courses through the Tulong Trabaho Scholarship Program of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan, Inc. (CCIFII) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Lanao del Norte.

Nine training providers gave training on dressmaking, driving, bread and pastry production, electrical installation and maintenance, among others.

“We have to strengthen the business and technical-vocational partnership because it aims not only to provide free technical vocational training and uplift the skills but seeks to address the job skills mismatch of our workers,” said Reggie Punongbayan CCIFII president.

Meanwhile, TESDA Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Noralaine Rasul called on the graduates to maximize the skills they gained to uplift their socio-economic status and have a comfortable life.

Mira Adlaon, 48 years old, who completed the bread and pastry production course, plans to start a business.

“Nagpasalamat kaayo ko ug dako kay nakaavail ko aning scholarship kay dili jud tanna makaapil. Nalipay ko kay isa ko sa nakaapil. Nakatabang ni ug dako sa amoa,” she said.

[I am very thankful because I was able to get this scholarship because not everyone can have this. I am happy because I was one of the trainees. This is a big help to us.]

75 TESDA scholars in MisOr complete skills training course

LAGONGLONG, Misamis Oriental (PIA)—As part of its ongoing effort to improve the Filipinos’ standard of living by helping to develop technical skills, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Misamis Oriental (TESDA-MisOr) gathered to celebrate the graduation of another group of scholars in Lagonglong town.

Seventy-five scholars from various fields on September 14. Fifty students, all of whom were residents of barangays Kauswagan and Tabok, graduated from the ‘Farm Field School on Production of High-Quality Inbred Rice, Seed Certification, and Farm Mechanization’ program, while 25 students from barangay Gaston graduated from the ‘Produce Organic Vegetables Leading to Organic Agriculture Production NC II’ program.

Dr. Miraflor Emata, the vocational training program administrator at Kinoguitan National Agriculture School, said the program aims to provide communities with free access to this type of program that focuses on teaching a specific trade with a hands-on approach.

“We aim to empower grassroots communities by ensuring that people who are either out-of-school or those who want to learn additional skills are served by the government,” she said.

Beneficiaries thanked the government for the program, saying that it is helpful in their farming endeavors.

They also asked TESDA for additional training to help them improve their skills in growing various crops and contribute to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s goal of improving the country’s agriculture sector.

TESDA-10 chief: TVET is always available


CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–“It is our duty to inform our people that TVET is here, TVET is always available for them,” says Regional Director of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10 Ashary Banto.

He is referring to technical – vocational education and training (TVET) offered by the department to Filipinos who cannot afford formal education.

TESDA-10 celebrated, August 24-25, the National Tech-Voc Day which is also simultaneously held by TESDA offices in different cities and provinces in the country. The first day is the National Enrollment Day where various TESDA schools in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental are present. 

Banto said the celebration is another opportunity to tell the people in northern Mindanao that TVET is really working in this part of the country.

“Perhaps, the welfare and the development of our human resource in our country will be better addressed by technical skills training,” he said, citing that there are even success stories gathered by their office when even those who are graduates with bachelor’s degree are earning because of their technical-vocational skills.

Moreover, he mentioned that it is recognized that for a typical Filipino family, graduating  tertiary education is very important.

“But nevertheless, not everybody can afford formal education, not everybody can proceed to college. So therefore, it is our duty to inform our people that TVET is here, TVET is always available for them,” he said.

The National Tech-Voc event showcased the skills of trainees and graduates. The information caravan special of this activity also promoted the different offerings of the department.

The second day, on the other hand, highlighted the job fair dubbed as “World Cafe of Opportunities.” Tech-Voc graduates were exposed to different companies and TESDA is looking forward to many applicants being hired during or being called after the job fair. (IJBD/PIA-10)

TESDA-10 recognizes program partners

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10 recognized partners in the implementation of its programs and activities during the recently concluded 2022 TESDA Awards, August 31.

Having the theme, “Sulong sa makabagong trabaho,” the awards gathered all the TESDA-10 programs stakeholders. Institutional awards on the Legislative Category was given to the 2nd Congressional District of Misamis Oriental, while Industry Category was awarded to TCO Socio-Economic and Environmental Development, Inc.

TESDA-10 Regional Director Ashary A. Banto said the awards night is a manifestation of successful partnership in implementing the programs that seek to promote the importance of developing technical skills and education among Filipinos. He said he looks forward to more awardees, and more partners in the next awarding events.

In addition to institutional awards, TESDA also hailed its “Idols ng TESDA” which are given to Alexander Ray I. Sumania for self-employed category and Grace D. Cabaron for the wage-employed category. The 2022 Tagsanay Award is further given to Daphne D. Beniga.

TESDA-10 as well as recognized the entire RTESDC chaired by Eduardo F. Pelaez, and its Industry Board Members namely Ruben A. Vegafria, Eugenio P. Ladera Jr., Nenita M. Tan, Dr. Marte M. Emperio, and Engr. Arthur Mencius B. Quiblat.

The department’s training centers also named their best local government unit partners. LGU Iligan was named best partner for Regional Training Center of Iligan, while LGU Barangay Lumbia is the best partner for Provincial Training Center based in Cagayan de Oro City. For LGU partner of Provincial Training Center – Camiguin, Catarman bagged the award.

Provincial Training Center of Lanao del Norte named Lanao del Norte Provincial Government as its best partner, while for Misamis Occidental, the training center selected the Municipal Agriculture Office of Plaridel. Camiguin School of Arts and Trades chose to recognize LGU Mambajao.

Kinoguitan National Agricultural School and Provincial Training Center – Bukidnon, on the other hand, recognized the City Veterinary Office of Valencia and Valencia City LGU, respectively. Further, Oroquieta City Agro-Industrial School awarded LGU Oroquieta.

TESDA MisOr bags awards on service quality performance

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)—The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Misamis Oriental (TESDA-MisOr) received four of the ten awards presented on August 31 at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City during the agency’s 2022 TESDA Awards night.

Marigold Cherie Garrido, TESDA-MisOr provincial director, said the province received the 2021 Best Performing TESDA Provincial Office in Scholarship; 2021 Best Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Committee; 2021 Best Performing TESDA Provincial Office in Social Marketing and Advocacy Campaign; and 2021 Best Performing TESDA Technology Institute in Social Media and Advocacy Campaign given to Regional Training Center in Tagoloan town.

“Misamis Oriental covered 47 percent of the target and we accomplished all of it. We are using the teamwork strategy and applied the technology that helped us do [our] work easier to really accomplish the target,” she said.

Garrido also attributed the achievements and success to its collaboration with partner agencies, the national government, and local government units.

Meanwhile, TESDA Regional Training Center-Tagoloan Administrator Mario Labisig said that the awards would not be possible without the help of media partners and the Philippine Information Agency-Misamis Oriental Information Center, as the media plays a vital role in promoting and informing the public about TESDA’s programs.

With the theme “Sulong sa Makabagong Trabaho,” TESDA-10 culminates its 28th anniversary by giving recognition to its stakeholders, media partners, and to their best-performing provincial offices for their valuable contribution.

TESDA holds World Cafe of Opportunities in Iligan

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–In observance of the National Technical-Vocational Day and as part of its 28th-anniversary celebration, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Lanao del Norte held the annual World Café of Opportunities.

TESDA conducted this event together with various industries, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry, and Public Employment Service Office to show the cooperation of government agencies, industry associations, enterprises, and financial institutions.

“It is also a start for the job seekers, those who want in industries or companies, job vacancies they can avail of. Even self-employment we can also produce. Giving also the opportunity for our job seekers abroad and to match with the competences in addressing the gap of mismatch jobs,” said TESDA Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Noralaine Rasul.

Meanwhile, DOLE Lanao del Norte Provincial Head Safrali Cabili said their office is committed to support and extend assistance.
