Collections from Income Tax accounted for the largest share of the total tax takes with P1.83 billion followed by Vale-Added Taxes with P896.53 million. Total Excise Taxes collected amounted to P537 million while Percentage and Other Taxes totalled P261.53 million.

All revenue districts in the region reported growth in collections. Cagayan de Oro remained the top collection district registering P1.82 billion collections followed by Bukidnon with P401.77 million. Iligan contributed P393.04 million to the total tax takes while Ozamiz City and Gingoog City reported P248.02 million and P122.08 million, respectively.

Engr. Cecilio Clarete, chief economic development specialist of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in the region said the good performance during the quarter was attributed to the implementation of major programs on enhancing prompt tax compliance of individuals and firms such as the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) and Oplan Kandado.

RATE aims to investigate, prosecute and convict individuals and/or entities engaged in tax evasion and other criminal violations of the National Internal Revenue Code while Oplan Kandado involves the suspension of business operations and temporary padlocking of business establishments not complying with requirements concerning tax payments.

Clarete further noted that automation which improved tax collection efficiency and frontline services also contributed to the increasing tax collections in the region. (APB/PIA-10)
