The Social Security System (SSS) here took part in preparing the public schools for the opening of classes on June 5.
More than 60 officials and employees of SSS-Cagayan de Oro Branch participated in the “Brigada Eskwela” last Saturday, May 20, at Lumbia Elementary School this city.
The SSS employees were divided into groups to help in repainting the walls of the classrooms, cleaning the school premises, preparing for “boodle fight” lunch and others.
Membership assistance desks were also set up at said school to cater to all SSS-related inquiries.
Some SSS employees also rendered a dance number during the closing program.
In his message, Atty. Edwin M. Alo, vice president for Northern Mindanao Division said, “the spirit of volunteerism is alive in the SSS.”
Aside from coming to school to do the manual labor, the SSS officials and employees also contributed some amount for the expenses incurred during their participation in the Brigada Eskwela, Atty. Alo stressed.
He also thanked Dr. Marichelle F. Saga, the school principal and the other stakeholders who supported the activity like SM Malls and REACT Philippines – Pineapple Group representatives.
Indeed, “to be part of volunteer work gave greater satisfaction than just cash donations,” he concluded.
