A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-10 and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-10 on May 19 to help inmates acquire skills while in jail.
The signing of the MOU has sealed the partnership of the two agencies in honing the skills of the inmates to enable them to earn some income while inside the city jail and to prepare them for jobs as soon as they are released.
TESDA also provides for funds and raw materials to be used by the prisoners during the training.
Prior to the skills training, TESDA will conduct a pre-assessment examination to the inmates in order to know the skills that they want to acquire and for the agency to know which training should be given to them.
Edgar A. Sales, regional director of TESDA-10, encouraged the inmates to grab the opportunity given them by the government.
Also, TESDA-10 encouraged the inmates to have their families avail themselves of the agency’s programs, as there are also scholarships offered to deserving individuals.
