IRRI launches rice crop manager app

A Rice Crop Manager (RCM) app was developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) for the Philippines. An information and communication technology-based decision support-tool that provides irrigated and rain-fed rice farmers with location-specific crop management recommendation to increase production and income.

RCM is accessible though desktop computers and smart phones aiming to contribute to the implementation of appropriate ‘modern precision farming’ by providing farmers with personalized crop and nutrient management recommendations matching their location –specific rice growing conditions.

The project is backed also by the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

A nationwide dissemination campaign was likewise launched participated by various government agencies, and was held early this month in Cagayan de Oro City, graced by DA Assistant Secretary for Operations, Federico E. Laciste, Jr.. (Sarah Beebout, DA-RFO 10/PIA 10)
