Mindanao power supply expected to remain stable amid Steag 2 preventive maintenance

Power producer STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) will carry out its first planned maintenance shutdown for the year on 8-10 February 2017.

Maintenance activities will be carried out for the major and auxiliary equipment of Steag Unit # 2 to ensure its long-term efficiency and reliability. The unit has a net generating capacity of 105MW.

The planned maintenance shutdown is expected to have minimal or no adverse effect in the power supply condition in Mindanao.

Unlike in the previous years, Mindanao currently enjoys a surplus capacity of more than 500 MW primarily due to the stable condition of the hydro electric power plants as well as the operations of new baseload capacities.

Despite this surplus capacity, SPI continues to enjoin Mindanao power consumers to remain prudent in the use of electric power.

SPI owns and operates Mindanao’s first coal-fired power plant located at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental.

The company is a pioneer in highly efficient and reliable power generation. It has delivered more than 14B kWh of electric power to the grid and has sustained reliability and efficiency ratings that are higher than industry standards. (spi)
