Army sponsors ‘gift-giving’ for Lumad kids

As a physical symbol and expression of social ties that bring individuals together, the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion (8IB) conducted a gift-giving event at Kapitan Bayong village in Impasugong town, Bukidnon.

More than a hundred of “Lumad (Indigenous Peoples)” children received bagful gifts making both kids and parents joyful this holiday season.

In his statement, 8th IB Commander Col. Antonio I. Bautista, Jr, said the activity is part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Internal Peace and Security Plan or “IPSP Bayanihan.”

“Christmas is the season of love and sharing. With the spirit of Bayanihan, we can make a difference by giving love and joy to the children of Bukidnon. Thru Bayanihan, we can do many things for as long as we act as one,” Bautista said.

Likewise, he said, it is the AFP’s mandate to engage in community activities to establish rapport with various stakeholders in order to achieve just and lasting peace. (Erwin P. Bugarin, CMO, 8IB, 4ID, PA/RLRB, PIA10-Bukidnon)
