Four got injured in an explosion that occurred at around 6:45 p.m. at the Freedom Park in Iligan City on 07 December 2016.
The were immediately brought to the Dr. Uy Hospital, nearest hospital from the blast site, for treatment. They are now declared stable.
Police Senior Superintendent Leony Roy G. Ga, city police director, said only two of the wounded victims, who were transferred to a government-run City Hospital, were advised for admission. The other two were immediately released.
Ga has coordinated with the local government for a possible assistance to the victims.
The police tram investigating the incident found at the blast site a safety lever of grenade, metal fragments and soil deposit from site explosion, which is just in front of the Police Station 5. Fragments were brought to the crime laboratory for further examination to determine the type of grenade thrown.
The city police director said a witness was already identified and now under the custody of the police.
Initial investigation disclosed that a man wearing black bonnet and jacket allegedly lobbed a grenade at Freedom Park and ran toward Roosevelt st. to escape.
A follow up invetigation with the aid of CCTV footages is now being conducted for possible identification of the suspect/s, Ga said
Also, police operatives were dispatched to gather additional information to hunt down suspects.
The victims were identified as Laureto Carabantes Alla Jr., 26, of Purok 5, Barangay Santiago, who was hit at the back of his head while waiting for a jeepney in going home; Cristine Mercaderos y Perocho, 20, of Maria Cristina, student of MSU-IIT, who was hit at left arm; Cherryl Paquit y Matugas, 26, of Caugmaran, Suarez, who sustained three wounds at left and right shoulder, and one at right side of the neck; and Sheilamae Maagad y Asibal, 23, of Poblacion, got a wound at her left temporal. The doctors attending to the victims said they just suffered minor injuries.
PSSupt Ga has ordered all police units in the city to stay vigilant to prevent a similar incident from hapening.
Checkpoints have been strictly implemented 24/7 in the entrance of Iligan City particularly at the area of Police Station 2, in Nunucan going western part, PSSupt Ga disclosed. (lvgabule, PIA-10 LDN/ICPO-PNP)
