Anti-trafficking council strengthens drive to end VAW

To emphasize everyone’s commitment and contribution in ending VAW, the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking Violence Against Women and Their Children (RIACAT-VAWC) in northern Mindanao spearheads the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW on November 25 to December 12.

With the theme, “VAW-Free Community Starts with Me,” the celebration highlights the things that can be done to make women and girls live a life that is free from violence.


Hence, the RIACAT-VAWC- 10 intensified its campaign to end violence in the region by distributing tarpaulins and videos in CDs that feature the usual violence committed against women and how one can prevent such acts.

The materials were given to the regional offices of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on November 25 to kick off the celebration.

In a short program held at the CAAP, Laguindingan town, Misamis Oriental, Christine Baclayon, air terminal supervisor read the message of President Rodrigo Duterte saying that “A community that is free from violence against women is a place where women and men live together in harmony and treat each other as partners in the pursuit of our country’s economic, social, cultural and political development.”


The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 to raise awareness among all stakeholders that VAW is a public issue of national concern. It supports the Philippine Government’s goal to protect the human rights of women and its commitment to address all forms of VAW.(RTP/PIA10)
