The Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD), Phoenix Philippines Foundation and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Region 10 (DENR-10) recently planted Lawaan seedlings at the Mahuganao Watershed, in Malasag Heights, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro city.
This annual joint watershed protection project is now on its third year and is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by COWD and Phoenix Philippines Foundation in 2014.
COWD and PPF forged a commitment to protect and conserve the environment towards sustainable development through its “Adopt a Site Project.” PPF adopted an area within the 10.5 hectares of the Mahuganao watershed where COWD had its rehabilitation project.
COWD General Manager Rachel M. Beja said COWD has a stewardship program of 25 years and urged the continued support of other stakeholders in the preservation of the watershed.
PPF Northern Mindanao Sales Manager Jonathan Bitonga, meanwhile, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to assist COWD in its efforts to sustain water security.
The activity was joined by student-partners from Capitol University (CU), Liceo de Cagayan University (LDCU), Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Pilgrim Christian College, together with MONC Mio Motoring Club Inc. and Golden K Advertising. (COWD/PIA-10)
